To qualify for a Forgotten Diggers Headstone, the Digger concerned:

• Must have been awarded the British War Medal (this means that they embarked Australia for overseas and got as far as Egypt or England at the very least)

• Do not qualify for a Commonwealth Funded war grave

• Must lie in an unmarked grave in New South Wales
